Requests During Your Stay
We are located in a remote location, using solar power and a very basic septic system. In addition, we want the Mamaki Cabin to be a place where chemically and EMF sensitive people can feel comfortable. Thus, here are a few requests we would ask of you during your stay:
1) This is a non-smoking environment. Please do not burn incense of any kind, no sage/smudge, no candles. Primarily, this is for safety reasons. In addition, many types of incense and candles have synthetic fragrances in them. No pets or service animals.
2) Please do not bring or use any body or hair care products containing chemical ingredients or ‘fragrance.’ Even so-called ‘natural’ body and hair care products contain with ‘parfume’ or ‘fragrance’ as the last ingredient; these are synthetic and neurotoxic. Soaps, conditioners, shampoo, most often, will have fragrances that stay in the bedding and in the rocks in the outdoor shower. We ask you be very mindful of this.
3) We have an efficient, but very simple septic system. ABSOLUTELY NO tampons or napkins should be flushed down the toilet. Please use the excellent bidet we have provided and no, or as little, toilet paper as possible. You may use the nice cotton towel hanging next to the toilet to dry yourself off, it is provided for this purpose. In addition, you need not flush the toilet each time you urinate. Please preserve the water and the septic system in this way.
4) We have an excellent, but minimal solar electric system. We need to conserve power, especially when it is cloudy with no sun for a few days to charge the solar panels. Please do not leave lights on and be mindful of what type of appliances you plug in and use. For example, a hair dryer will burn up battery power very quickly. Charging cell phones and laptops is fine.
5) In the bathroom, the lighting is provided by the two LED sensor lights on each side of the mirror. These are usually charged. However, if one or both need to be charged, they are easily pulled off the wall (they are magnetic), and there are USB charging cables in the medicine cabinet. Simply charge them using the USB connection in the lamp on the nightstand or use the USB wall adapter provided.
6) In the kitchen, please always use the glass cutting boards for food prep. Please never cut directly on the formica, as you know. The kitchen and bedroom windows should be closed if you leave and when you are finished in the kitchen. We never know when rain is coming on this island, and it can blow through the windows, especially the front and back windows in the kitchen.
We appreciate your attention to these requests and hope you have an enjoyable stay in the Mamaki Cabin.
